​MATARIKI TAMARIKI WHĀNAU DAY

When - Saturday 22 July 2023

Time- 1-4pm


Where - Devonport Community House-Kauri Hall

​What​ - ​Come and celebrate Matariki with your little Tamariki. We will have face painting, flax-making flowers, a disco, waiata, arts and crafts, sausage sizzle and so much more. We will be creating a schedule of when all the activities will be happening during the afternoon closer to the time!

​What​ - ​Matariki Lantern Making Session

More info- Twinkling in the winter sky just before dawn, Matariki (the Pleiades) signals the Māori New Year. For Māori, the appearance of Matariki heralds a time of remembrance, joy and peace. It is a time for communities to come together and celebrate.

​The Devonport Community House is proud to be hosting many events to help celebrate Matariki this year. We are also excited to partner with other local organisations and people to make this year's celebrations exceptionally special. Make sure you visit our website,  the Devonport Peninsula Trust, Depot Artspace, the Navy Museum, and Devonport Library to find out about all the festivities happening on the peninsula.

Cost
 - We will provide one lantern per for family for free. You can also purchase lantern making kits on session for $8 each

​What​ - Join our monthly Newcomers Meet-up to connect with fellow newcomers, share experiences and learn about our community. A Citizen Advice Bureau representative available at session. All welcome!

​BLOKES BOOT CAMP

When - Mondays- 9am-9.45am

Where - Devonport Community House-Kauri Hall

​What​ - John Talbot is one of our wonderful volunteer drivers at the Devonport Community House. However, he is also a very skilled and passionate personal trainer, with extensive experience! 

John served for 14 years with the NZ Defence Force, seven with NZ Army and seven with the RNZAF.  In order to qualify as a PTI (Physical Training Instructor), John had to pass 5 courses which were spread over a 5-year period and resulted in receiving a Diploma in Physical Education.

John would like to help and inspire anyone in the community to come and get fit and healthy. He understands that as you get older it becomes harder but would like to work with members in our community and get them fighting fit!

​DIGITAL HELP
What - Digital help is for anyone who is needing help with their technical device. For your iPad, tablet, laptop or phone, our technical professionals are here to answer your questions. Every Friday we will be holding these sessions and you will be able to bring your device and questions for some one on one help.
